PhotoCleanr

Lossless: the picture isn’t re-encoded

Share the photo, not the story behind it.

Photos can carry hidden data: where they were taken, the device, the apps that touched them. PhotoCleanr shows you what is inside and removes it before you post, sell or send.

The report is free. Pay only for the clean copies you download.

What is hiding in your photos

None of it is visible in the picture. All of it travels with the file when you share it.

Where and with what

GPS coordinates of where a photo was taken, and the phone or camera that took it, often with its serial number.

Who and how

Content Credentials (C2PA): a signed record of the apps that made or edited the image, sometimes with a name and a link to an online copy.

Everything tucked in

Comments, editing software notes, and the prompt and settings some AI tools save inside PNG files.

Recognised author and rights information is kept; see the report and terms.

Prices include VAT in the EU, the UK and Switzerland; elsewhere local sales tax may be added. Payments are handled by Paddle, our reseller, which shows the final price before you pay.

Lossless

The data is taken out of the file without re-encoding the picture, so its quality stays the same. The colour profile and rotation are kept.

Deleted within the hour

Your photos are deleted from our server when you download the clean copy in the browser, and within an hour in any case.

Cleaned in the EU

Automatically, on our server in Germany. Your photos aren’t sold or used to train AI. If you connect an AI tool, it gets the report and the clean copy.

Questions

What are Content Credentials? +

Content Credentials (C2PA) are a signed record stored inside an image: which camera or app made it, how it was edited, and sometimes who made it and whether AI was involved. More and more phones, cameras, editors and AI tools add them.

Does cleaning change my photo? +

No. PhotoCleanr takes the hidden data out of the file and never re-encodes the picture itself, so the picture data and its quality stay the same. The colour profile and the photo’s rotation are kept.

Which files work? +

JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF and HEIC. PhotoCleanr removes location and camera data, editing history, comments and Content Credentials. It keeps the author, copyright and licence information it recognises, including terms of use and copyright notices in comments, and data the picture needs to display correctly. If an image’s Content Credentials contain author or rights information, limits on AI use, or records it can’t read, it leaves that image unchanged, for free. The report lists what was kept.

What about invisible watermarks? +

Some tools also hide a watermark in the pixels themselves, such as Google SynthID. Removing it would mean changing the picture, so PhotoCleanr leaves it. The report lists the metadata found in the file; it can’t tell whether the picture hides a watermark.

What happens to my photos? +

They are cleaned automatically on our server in Germany and deleted when you download the clean copy, and within an hour in any case (a link given to an AI tool works until then). Nobody looks at them unless you ask us to in a support request, and they are used for nothing else. For your credits we count the images you cleaned, nothing about the images themselves.

Do credits expire? +

No. Checking an image is free; a credit is used when you download a cleaned copy. An image with nothing to remove, or one PhotoCleanr leaves unchanged, costs nothing. Through a connected AI tool, a credit is used when the image is cleaned, because the tool gets the clean copy right away.

Can I get a refund? +

Yes. Within 14 days of a purchase you can withdraw from it under Settings, Credits and get back the price of the credits you haven’t used. If a download failed or a credit was used by mistake, we give it back.

Who handles payments? +

Paddle, our reseller. It charges VAT or sales tax where it applies, sends your receipt and pays refunds.
