Terms of use
The agreement between you and us when you use PhotoCleanr, in plain language.
In effect from November 3, 2026.
These terms apply when you use PhotoCleanr on photocleanr.com or through an AI tool you connect to it. PhotoCleanr is run by Insightful3, Mitja Kravos s.p., Kašeljska cesta 150A, 1260 Ljubljana - Polje, Slovenia, registration number 8335885000, VAT ID SI58712631 (“we”, “us”). When you create an account you confirm that you accept these terms; we email them to you. Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal data, and our refund policy how withdrawals and refunds work.
1. What PhotoCleanr does
- PhotoCleanr finds and removes supported metadata stored in an image file alongside the picture: location and camera details (EXIF), XMP and IPTC metadata, comments and text fields, and Content Credentials (C2PA). It works on JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF and HEIC files and does not re-encode the image data.
- Information about who made an image and its rights is kept: the fields for the author, credit, source, title, copyright, licence and terms of use, work and document identifiers, a link to Content Credentials kept online, and comments and descriptions that contain a copyright or licence notice. PhotoCleanr recognises this information by the standard names of these fields and by such notices; it may not recognise information stored in other ways. As a safeguard, PhotoCleanr leaves a file unchanged when its Content Credentials contain author or rights information, including limits on AI training or data mining, or records PhotoCleanr cannot read. Changes to covered parts of a file can invalidate its credentials. Nothing is removed from such a file, so its location and other private metadata stay in it, and no credit is used.
- Also kept: data the picture needs to display correctly, such as its colour profile, its rotation and the description of an HDR photo’s brightness, and data stored where it can’t be removed without changing the picture. In AVIF and HEIC files removed data is overwritten where it is, so the file keeps its size. The report lists what was kept.
- PhotoCleanr does not remove watermarks hidden in the pixels themselves (such as Google SynthID), and it cannot change copies of a photo that were already shared.
- The report describes the supported metadata found in the file. It does not verify who made an image or whether it is authentic. Image files vary a great deal, and we cannot promise that a file is free of every piece of hidden information; where this matters, check the result yourself.
2. Your account
- You need an account to use PhotoCleanr, and you must be 18 or older.
- Use a real email address and keep your password, passkeys and two-factor codes to yourself.
- An account is for one person. You are responsible for what is done with it, including by AI tools you connect.
3. Credits and payment
- Checking an image and seeing its report is free. Downloading the cleaned copy uses one credit. No credit is used for an image with nothing to remove, for an image PhotoCleanr leaves unchanged (section 1), or for a cleaned copy that expired before you downloaded it. Through a connected AI tool, a credit is used as soon as an image has been cleaned, because the tool receives the clean copy straight away.
- Credits are sold in packs. The number of credits and the price of each pack are shown before you buy. Prices include VAT in the EU, the UK and Switzerland; elsewhere local sales tax may be added. The final total is shown before you pay.
- Paddle sells the credits. Credits are purchased from the Paddle entity identified at checkout, under Paddle’s buyer terms. We operate PhotoCleanr and provide the cleaning service under these terms. For payment questions, use the Paddle link in your receipt; you can also contact us, including for help with a service problem. These arrangements do not restrict your statutory rights.
- Before each purchase you ask us to start providing the service as soon as you have paid, before the 14-day withdrawal period ends, and acknowledge that once all credits of the pack are used, the service has been fully provided and you can no longer withdraw from that purchase. Until then you can withdraw within those 14 days: you pay for the credits used until you withdraw and get back the price of the rest, as the refund policy explains. Withdrawal ends this way only where the legal conditions for it are met. It does not limit any better withdrawal or refund right under the applicable law or the seller’s terms, or your remedies for a service that was not supplied correctly.
- Credits do not expire. They have no cash value and cannot be transferred to another account or exchanged for money, except as described here and in the refund policy. Credits are used oldest first. Where unused credits are refunded, each is worth the price you paid for its pack divided by the credits in that pack.
- If we stop offering PhotoCleanr, we tell you at least 60 days before and refund your unused credits.
4. Using PhotoCleanr responsibly
- PhotoCleanr is for removing hidden information from images before you publish, sell or send them. Only upload images you have the right to use, and images of other people only where you are allowed to handle them. As a private user, don’t clean images that reveal health or other sensitive information about other people. To clean images with sensitive information about you, first give your explicit consent with the switch on the cleaning page, or the box when you connect an AI tool; you can withdraw it on the cleaning page. Without it, clean only images with no sensitive information about anyone. As a business, upload only images you have a legal basis to process, including for any health or other sensitive information they show.
- Do not remove or alter rights-management information without the necessary authority, or use PhotoCleanr to cause, enable, facilitate or conceal an infringement. Cleaning does not remove attribution, licence or disclosure duties that apply to your use of an image.
- Where an image was made or changed with AI, cleaning does not change that, or any duty to disclose it when you use or publish the image.
- You may not use PhotoCleanr to:
- deceive people about who made an image or where it comes from in order to defraud, impersonate or mislead them;
- hide that an image of a real person was faked;
- find out or infer anyone’s health, religion or beliefs, sex life or sexual orientation, political opinions, racial or ethnic origin or other special categories of personal data from images or their metadata;
- process medical records or images of patients, except as a business under the data processing agreement with a legal basis for that data;
- process illegal content, such as child sexual abuse material, which we report where the law requires;
- overload, probe or attack the service, or get around credits or limits.
- To report misuse or illegal content, write to info@insightful3.com, our single point of contact for users and authorities, in English or Slovenian. Say what the content is and where (for example a download link), why you consider it illegal, and give your name and email address, unless the report concerns child sexual abuse material, and a statement that you believe in good faith that the report is accurate and complete. We confirm that we received it, decide carefully and without undue delay, and tell you and the user concerned what we decided and why. Either of you can ask us to review the decision by replying to it, and can go to court. If we learn of a possible crime that threatens someone’s life or safety, we inform the police.
5. Your images
- Your images stay yours. You allow us to process them only to clean them for you. This happens automatically: nobody reviews images as a matter of course, and we look at one only if you ask us to, for example in a support request, or if the law requires it. We don’t sell your images or use them to train AI models.
- A cleaned copy waits on our server until you download it, and is deleted within an hour at the latest; a download link given to an AI tool works until then, unless you disconnect the tool. Keep your originals: we only ever give you a copy. This applies to images submitted for cleaning; if you send an image or a report to support, we handle it as the privacy policy describes for support requests.
- If you use PhotoCleanr for a business, for images of your customers or employees for example, we process those images on your behalf under our data processing agreement. It forms part of these terms and applies automatically; you can download or print it from that page. This is available only to businesses, including those processing images for their own clients, established in the EEA or covered by a European Commission adequacy decision for this processing (in the US, for example, only organisations certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework). By using it this way, a business declares that this applies to it; if in doubt, ask us first. Before you use it this way, enter the business and a contact email under Settings, Business use, so we know whom we process for; personal use needs nothing there. If the business cleans images for its own clients, list them there too. Changing the organisation, or going back to personal use, disconnects your AI tools and deletes cleaned images still waiting.
- The PhotoCleanr software, name and logo are ours.
6. Connected AI tools
If you connect an AI tool such as Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, it can submit images for cleaning, spend your credits and read your credit balance. It receives the cleaning report and a link to the cleaned image. Reports may contain personal information from the file, such as the camera model or the software used, and say whether it holds a location or a comment; the text of a comment is shown only in your browser. What the tool’s provider does with them is governed by that provider’s terms and privacy information. If your personal account may be with the tool’s US company (for Claude, accounts outside the EEA, Switzerland and the UK; for ChatGPT, outside the EEA and Switzerland), you agree in a box of its own on the connect screen that we send the reports and cleaned images to the company named there, and you use that connection only for files that contain no personal data about anyone else, including in kept author and rights information; clean other files on the website. With a work account (such as Claude Team or Enterprise, or ChatGPT Business, Enterprise or Edu), the provider your organisation contracted with receives them under that agreement. By connecting it you confirm that you may act for the organisation entered under Settings, Business use, that you instruct us under the data processing agreement to send them to that tool, and that its agreement for the account is with the provider’s Irish company (Anthropic Ireland, Limited or OpenAI Ireland Limited). If it isn’t, or you’re unsure, clean on the website or ask us before connecting a work account. If we learn that a personal account’s connection is used for other people’s data, we may disconnect it. The tool cannot see your other images, your account or your payment details. You can disconnect a tool at any time under Settings, AI tools: that stops new operations at once and cancels the upload and download links it was given. Copies it already received cannot be recalled.
7. Availability and changes to the service
- We aim to keep PhotoCleanr running, but it may be unavailable at times, for example during maintenance.
- We may change PhotoCleanr for a valid reason: to keep it secure, to follow the law, to keep it working with new file formats and tools, or to improve it. If a change has more than a minor negative effect on you, for example on what a credit buys, the formats supported or your access to the service, we tell you by email at least 30 days before. You can then end the contract free of charge within 30 days after our notice or the change, whichever is later, and get your unused credits refunded. Such a change never costs you anything extra, and your legal remedies are unaffected.
8. Ending your account
- You can delete your account at any time under Settings. Before you do, the page shows your unused credits and how to withdraw from a purchase of the last 14 days. Unused credits you don’t withdraw from are deleted with the account and not refunded, which you confirm before deleting. Deleting your account doesn’t cancel a withdrawal or refund you have already asked for, or any right the law gives you; we keep the record needed to complete them, as the privacy policy explains.
- If you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, we may suspend features or your account, in proportion to the breach and after a warning where that is reasonable, and we tell you why. If we close an account, for whatever reason, we refund its unused credits.
9. When something goes wrong, and liability
- If PhotoCleanr doesn’t work as these terms or our site describe, tell us. You have the remedies the law gives you, such as having it put right, a price reduction or ending the contract. Write to us first: we deal with it, and with Paddle where a payment is involved, so you don’t have to work out who is responsible.
- If you are a consumer, our liability and your remedies are governed by applicable law. The limits below for business customers do not apply to you. Nothing in these terms restricts rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
- If you use PhotoCleanr for a business, our liability for slight negligence is limited to what you paid for credits in the 12 months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect damage or lost profit. This does not apply to damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence, or to harm to life, body or health.
10. Changes to these terms
We change these terms only for a valid reason, such as a change in the law or in the service, and announce changes by email and on this page at least 30 days before they apply. If you don’t agree, you can end the contract before then and get your unused credits refunded. We email you the terms when you sign up; earlier versions are available on request.
11. Law, complaints and disputes
- Slovenian law applies. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country where you live, and you can bring a claim before the courts there.
- These terms, the privacy policy, the refund policy and the data processing agreement are available in English and Slovenian, and both versions are binding. For consumers in Slovenia, the Slovenian version governs. Where the versions differ, the reading more favourable to a consumer applies where the law requires it, and nothing in this clause reduces mandatory consumer protection. You can use PhotoCleanr and contact us in either language.
- For a complaint, write to info@insightful3.com or call +386 41 451 922. We confirm that we received it and tell you how we will deal with it.
- We do not recognise any provider of out-of-court consumer dispute resolution. This does not limit your right to go to court or to complain to us.
